Read to Me!
Family Literacy Services

Reading at Home | Reading Tips for Parents | Choosing Books for Your Child

The Adult Literacy League provides its Read to Me! literacy program to low-income families with pre-school children, a population most at risk of not reading to their children or having children's books at home.

Read to Me!
is operating in local Head Start programs, low-income pre-school centers and is also provided to the families of adult learners enrolled in the Adult Literacy League's programs. Through the support of our current donors, 330 children are being served.

This program is entirely funded by private donations from individuals, foundations and corporation. The need is great for additional funding to help us expand this effective program to more children at centers currently on our waiting list.

Family Literacy Workshops

A favorite feature of the Read to Me!  Book Club is the Family Literacy Workshop we offer.  Families come together at the ALL office.  A variety of literacy activities are offered including reading a book and doing a “Make & Take” activity.  A copy of the book read is given to each family to keep and there are door prizes for more books and literacy tools.  This is a delightful learning experience where families experience first-hand that reading is fun and that reading together is wonderful!

Families that qualify may register their children for the Read to Me! Book Club by contacting Sherry Clark, Director of Family Literacy, at 407-422-1540 to receive a registration form.

If you wish to volunteer for Family Literacy, you can help by participating in our Family Literacy Workshops held at our office and in various community venues.  We participate in large community events during the year and often need volunteer help for those specific events.  If you are interested in helping in that way, please call Sherry Clark, Director of Family Literacy at 407-422-1540.
