Darden Restaurants & KPMG LLP presented…
The 9th Annual Great, Grown-up Spelling Bee!

ALL President, Kate Kinsley, congratulates the runners up from Darden Restaurants as 4-time winners from Harcourt look on.

The Adult Literacy League cannot thank our two Capital Bee sponsors enough for getting the 2006 bee off to a fantastic fundraising success. Harcourt joined with Reed Elsevier at the lower case bee sponsorship level, and provided two teams from their corporate divisions. In all, 12 teams participated with Harcourt emerging victorious over runner’s up, Darden Restaurants.
As always, Scott McKenzie and Erica Lee kept the
evening lively. Jim Payne, from WESH Channel 2, joined Dr. Thaddeus
Seymour, President Emeritus of Rollins College, and Joanne Serros,
Sr. Vice President of United Heritage Bank, to judge the spellers'
accuracy. ALL Board member, Sean Christiansen from L-3 CyTerra served
as timekeeper. Dr. Ed LeRoy, Professor of Music at Rollins College,
pronounced this year’s very difficult word list.

Mercedes Bigelow, OCBA Legal Aid Society, and
this year's event chair, led a great team of volunteers and produced
a very successful event that raised more than $50,000 in cash and
in-kind contributions. This year’s bee team included Lisa
Bernardini, Diana Griffin, Sharon Hartman, Kate Kinsley, Teresa
Kolb, Grey Squires Binford and Andre Grosvenor. Tina Vitali, our
Americorps/VISTA, provided the staff support for the event and did
an outstanding job.
