Sponsor a Student
Yes! I want to change a life through literacy by giving $500 to sponsor a student for an entire year!
Sponsor an Adult Learner
Your support can change a life:
- You provide a $500 investment.
- The adult student makes a commitment to meet weekly for at least a year to improve reading, writing and/or English language skills.
- The Adult Literacy League trains the volunteer tutor, provides on-going support, and tests the student to measure progress.
- The volunteer tutor meets with the adult student for one-to-one, weekly tutoring sessions for an entire year.
- The student studies diligently to gain literacy skills, and is guided all the time by volunteers and staff members of the Adult Literacy League.
End result: Your investment makes it possible for a motivated man or woman to gain literacy skills, such as how to fill out a job application, improve employability, manage finances, use a computer, read to their children, or other personal and professional goals. Many adults attain the ability to earn a family-sustaining income with their newly learned skills.
Sponsor a Pre-School Child in Read to Me!
Your support will help a child be reading-ready by kindergarten:
1. You provide a $500 investment.
2. The Adult Literacy League trains a parent to be the first and most effective teacher in their child’s life.
3. A pre-school child from a low-income home receives Read to Me! lesson units throughout the year. Each unit consists of a FREE book and learning materials—30 units over a period of 30-36 weeks in a year—for the parent and child to do together. The parent reads the book to the child, and together they do the activity.
4. Volunteers (retired educators) package the materials and compile parent assessments to gauge participation and progress.
5. The child’s parent increases the amount of time he/she reads to his/her child. The family builds a home library of age-appropriate children’s books.
End result: Your investment makes it possible for a pre-schooler from a low-income, print-impoverished home to gain the literacy skills needed to enter school prepared to succeed.
Your investment not only changes individual lives, it influences the student’s entire family’s level of self-sufficiency and independence for generations to come.
