The Orlando Sentinel described Reading between the Wines as “the Adult Literacy League’s erudite and epicurean fundraiser where the wine and food tasting are the flavorful appetizer before the main course: a presentation, Q&A and book signing with NY Times’ best-selling author Michael Connelly and Florida mystery-writer, Bob Morris.” The two highly-acclaimed authors drew a sold-out audience at the beautifully redecorated ballroom at the Orlando Marriott Downtown on April 23, 2009. Guests enjoyed food from Houlihans, Tijuana Flats, and Shin Japanese Restaurant. More than seven different wineries offered a great variety of vino. And the bidding was fierce on more than 115 terrific auction items. The event raised $55,000 for the important cause of literacy in Central Florida, where one of out of five adults has a very low level of literacy.
Proceeds from the event will help expand literacy
services in Central Florida where 14% of adults cannot read at
a 5th grade level. Another 29% have only the most basic of skills
or are non-literate in English.
