Volunteer Coordinator

Hugh is a native New Yorker, born and raised on the beaches of Far Rockaway in the borough of Queens on Long Island.  His high school and college education focused on foreign language (Spanish, French, Latin, German, Hebrew) and he holds degrees in both Linguistics and Speech Pathology & Audiology.   A diversion led him into the Property & Casualty Insurance industry where he remained for 35 years, until ill health suggested that he find a slower pace of life in Florida.

He returned to his first love – language, communication arts, and vocabulary – when he found the Adult Literacy League in December 2009 as a new tutor.  Six years later, he began classroom instruction at the Corrections Facility on 33rd Street in Orlando, then eight classes at the League’s office, and recently assumed the role of Volunteer Coordinator.  He keeps his toe in the water by continuing to teach Advanced Vocabulary twice a week.

He is a frustrated pianist and has a side hobby of portrait photography to feed his creative streak. 407-422-1540 x121
