Development & Events Manager
Before becoming a fundraiser, Therese Murphy spent eight years as a librarian for the Orange County Library System, where she loved working with books and other book lovers. During this time, she volunteered for a local nonprofit, and eventually switched careers to nonprofit management. Since then she’s raised money for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, people living with HIV, and to prevent homelessness. She served as Business Development Manager of Hope and Help Center of Central Florida, and Development Director of Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando. Recently, she ran a program for LGBT+ seniors for The Center Orlando.
Therese began the Planned Parenthood “Speak Out Series,” which brought writers to Central Florida to speak about relevant issues, including Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Quindlen. As a nonprofit consultant, she helped educate Central Floridians about the missions and work of a variety of nonprofits, including the Mental Health Association of Central Florida. Therese wrote and raised the money for their “It’s Okay to Get Help” public service announcement campaign and recruited local leaders including Jim Philips of “The Philips Phile,” Scott Maxwell and Mike Thomas of the Orlando Sentinel, and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, to appear in these television spots.
In her free time, Therese volunteers for local nonprofits and political campaigns, and loves to read and write. She was recently interviewed for the podcast “Phoenix Tales,” about a series of essays she wrote while working in a restaurant during the Covid pandemic. She loves Central Florida, and the generosity and kindness of Central Floridians, and is excited to bring her experience to assisting ALL fulfill their mission of supporting the community through literacy and firstname.lastname@example.org 407-422-1540 ext. 199
