The Adult Literacy League has been teaching Central Florida’s adults to read and write, and to speak English for the last 52 years. But, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we were forced to reflect, react, and adapt in order to continue providing educational opportunities for the hundreds of students we are serving every week.
As a result, we’ve finally come to a decision about the future of 2020’s Reading Between the Wines fundraising event. It is with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to cancel this year’s event. Reading Between the Wines is absolutely vital to the Adult Literacy League – it raises approximately 20% of our annual budget. We are keeping ourselves busy developing and implementing quality online learning opportunities for the many students we serve – students who are desperate to continue to learning. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not offering any online learning opportunities for our students. This pandemic has forced us to react and adapt to this “new normal”, and with the help and support of our generous friends and corporate sponsors – Bank of America, OUC -The Reliable One, KPMG, Orlando Health, Publix Super Markets Charities, Burr Forman, Brandon and Farmand Families, UCF and Orlando Magic, we have expanded our online classes from 0 to nearly 20 in just a matter of weeks!
We’re so grateful for our dedicated sponsors and their continued support during these unprecedented times. We are beyond saddened to make this announcement, but we hope to see the Adult Literacy League family together again at next year’s Reading Between the Wines event.
That said, we will be hosting an online silent auction from Saturday, July 25 to Saturday, August 1 in place of our annual Reading Between the Wines auction. Follow this link to view this year’s auction items and make a bid once the window opens!
